One of the best things that has ever happened to the Legion is when the Sons
of the Legion Organization was approved for any and all Legion Posts. On top of that, Post 54 has one of the best SAL Squadrons in the whole country. Squadron 54 has officers in the National SAL and the State SAL. SAL members go around to local Squadrons to get them set up or just to get them running right, They are also running a great program for the troops in Iraq by sending our soldiers boxes of goodies which is called "Treats For Troops" (see article below). Our guys over there appreciate the stuff they get but I bet they appreciate even more that a little Squadron from Chewelah cares enough about them to do what the Squadron is doing. Check out the display at the Club.
Squadron 54 does a great deal of work for and with Post 54. If you see us marching in a parade or presenting the flag at a football game or firing our rifles at a funeral salute, there are SAL members filling out our ranks. Before the SAL, we had a hard time getting seven rifles and four flags for a funeral honor guard, but the SAL has made that a problem of the past. The SAL is putting in the labor and organizing the building of a good roof for the smoking area, cutting wood to supply the heat for the smoking area, picking up trash along our roads, putting on dinners at the Legion, repairing the building when it needs it, and just about anything we ask them to do.
If you are a veteran, your sons and/or grandsons can become members of the SAL. See Dean at THE DELI (the current SAL Adjutant) about joining the SAL.
THANKS A LOT GUYS!

TREATS FOR TROOPS
American Legion post 54, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2047, the American Legion Auxiliary and the Sons of the American Legion Squadron have started a program to send our men and women serving in Iraq, Afghanistan and Pakistan the normal items which they do not have access to in post exchanges in other foreign countries. These items include any microwaveable foods and treats, such as popcorn and soups, vacuum packed jerky and pepperoni, candies, such as Jolly Ranchers, etc, that do not contain chocolate (except M&M's). Other items that are needed are Carmax and pre-moistened wipes.
Donations can be made at the American Legion Club by anyone in the surrounding communities. There is also a donation jar to help cover mailing and postage expenses. If you have any relatives serving in combat areas, please bring their name and address to the Post so they can be included in the distribution of these collected items.
All veterans, their wives, sons and daughters, members of the community and business people thank you for making this endeavor a success.

He has committed to give $75.00 and a cake to the first squadron that reaches goal. And with that comes the membership trophy that your squadron will get to keep for an entire year from the Detachment. It's a race. who is going to win. Let's go!!!!!
