• John V. Folsom Post 54 was incorporated on October 19, 1919. The first general meeting of the Post was held during the same month of that year. Post 54 has been serving our Veterans and local communities for over 92 years.

  • There is an ongoing effort within our Post to recreate the Post's history from 1919 to the present. Gary Roach has unearthed several historical documents and Janet is digging for additional history. If you have knowledge of any Post 54 history and can help our efforts to fill in the gaps , PLEASE contact Gary or Janet at the Post.

  • Memorial Day Services 2011

Our Memorial Day Services at our local cemeteries went off without a hitch. As usual, we have Jim Mach to thank for his superb planning and leadership in making this very important event such a success.

We all met at the Legion at around 8:00 am. Jim gave assignments, and we were off to Addy Cemetery. From there we went up to Summit Valley Cemetery. Then it was back to the Legion for a breather, then up to the Public and Catholic Cemeteries on Flowery Trail.. We moved on to the Chewelah Cemetery off Hwy 395, then it was on to the Valley Cemetery, then Jump Off Joe Cemetery, then to the Springdale Cenetery and lastly but not least, Forest Center Cemetery.

These services included: The Call to Order, the laying of the Wreath, the Prayer, the rendering of the 21 gun salute, the "Present Arms" command where all the flags are dipped with the exception of the American Flag while Taps is being played by not one, but two buglers - one echoing the other.

    Veterans Day - 2011

Locals schools invited Veterans to their Veterans Day assemblies. Students presented programs of interest with very patiotic themes. If you missed these, you missed the youth of our comunities showing us what Veterans Day means to them - - - plus their thanks and gratitude for what Veterans have done to ensure our freedoms and their support for current military personnel. Jim Mach, Dale Storer and Gary Roach presented medals to all VFW Essay contest winners at each participating school. I'm sure I can speak for all local Veterans who did attend when I say that our youth are headed in the right direction and are getting positive guidance from their teachers.
