Preamble to the S.A.L. National Constitution

Proud possessors of a priceless heritage, we male descendants of veterans of the Great Wars, associate ourselves together as "Sons of The American Legion" for the following purposes: To uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America; to maintain law and order; to foster and perpetuate a true spirit of Americanism; to preserve the memories of our former members and the associations of our members and our forefathers in the Great Wars; to inculcate a sense of individual obligation to the community, state and nation; to combat the autocracy of both the classes and masses; to make right the master of might; to promote peace and good will on earth; to safeguard and transmit to posterity the principles of justice, freedom and democracy; to consecrate and sanctify our friendship by our devotion to mutual helpfulness; to adopt in letter and spirit all of the great principles for which The American Legion stands; and to assist in carrying on for God and Country.

      S.A.L. PROGRAMS

The S.A.L. has great flexibility in their ability to establish programs and projects to aide Vererans, community, local charities, the needy and their local American Legion post. This flexibility is extremely meaninfgful in aiding them to deliver help where help is needed the most.

The SAL squadron has been very busy running its programs, and one of the events that is a first in Chewelah is the "Rally 'Round The Valley" Poker Run that will be held this spring. This ORV ride will start in town, and continue on a trek that will wind around Mud Lake Rd. If your interested contact Roger Howden or and S.A.L. memeber. Last year this event raised a big chunk of money which was donated to the Childrens Pavillion in the City Park and helping with funding of Inland Northwest Honor Flight which sends WWII Veterans back to Washington DC to visit the WWII Memorial which honors all Veterans of this country's "Greatest Generation". If you enjoy riding, be sure to join in this fun event.

      Kitchen Committee

Suggestions and donations are welcome. The Sons have decided to look into updating the kitchen, and by doing so, make our kitchen more useful to other public organizations. In doing this it will make it more attractive for our use as well. So any and all help would be apprieciated.

The S.A.L. are involved in many other Veteran and Community projects & programs including:

    • roadside cleanup
    • pictures with Santa at Christmas time
    • pig roast to support our Legion Baseball teams
    • cut firewood for needy Veteran
    • provides labor for Veteran dinners
