TREATS FOR TROOPS

American Legion post 54, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2047, the American Legion Auxiliary and the Sons of the American Legion Squadron have started a program to send our men and women serving in Iraq, Afghanistan and Pakistan the normal items which they do not have access to in post exchanges in other foreign countries. These items include any microwaveable foods and treats, such as popcorn and soups, vacuum packed jerky and pepperoni, candies, such as Jolly Ranchers, etc, that do not contain chocolate (except M&M's). Other items that are needed are Carmax and pre-moistened wipes.

Donations can be made at the American Legion Club by anyone in the surrounding communities. There is also a donation jar to help cover mailing and postage expenses. If you have any relatives serving in combat areas, please bring their name and address to the Post so they can be included in the distribution of these collected items.

All veterans, their wives, sons and daughters, members of the community and business people thank you for making this endeavor a success.

VFW Post #2047

Dear Valued Post Member,

This letter is intended to wish you all a joyous holiday season and to inform you of what is going on in the post. The following officers were elected for the 2006-2007 year: Commander - Bob Egland, Vice Commanders- Paul Ortman Roger Ferguson, Adjutant-Carla Scott, Sgt.at Arms-Bob Ackerman, Quartermaster-Jim Mach, Chaplain-Gordon Martin, Advocate - Blaine Dolinger, Trustees-Dick Grewelle & Mark Matherly.

Our income for the year was $3125: Dues $507, Donations $1100, Poppy Sales $681, and Chataqua Bingo $837. Our expenditures were $2801: Scholarships $1750, Food Bank $300, Nat'l Home $50, Iraq Phone Cards $50, Poppies $56, Youth Donations $100, Chataqua Booth $150, Armed Forces Museum $50, Post Auxiliary $50, Logan Benefit $50, State & District Dues $50, Canadian Legion Donation $50, & Essay Medals $94.

Our membership is nearing 100. We lost 10 members last year, mostly due to the deaths of WW2 veterans. We have made this loss up by the addition of 8 Iraq War Veterans. We performed 14 military funerals. We carried the colors and led three local parades and one Canadian Parade. We participated in Veterans Day Programs at five local area schools. Various members made 27 hospital visits.

As you can see, we've been quite busy. We could use more members attending our meetings (3rd Monday of the month, 7:00PM @ The Legion Hall). We have a close relationship with our sister post in Canada (Post 59 in Grand Forks B.C.), as visitations have gone back and forth.

Thank you for your continued membership. Have a safe, happy and healthy Christmas Season.

Sincerely,

Jim Mach

Quartermaster
